It really depends on your track and your audio objectives. But remember maybe flexibility isn't a good thing for you as it can be distracting, or difficult to learn. My default mixer has 16 channels reserved for mic inputs.Īs said earlier, Superior offers much more flexibility than any other drum application I know of. Compression, gating, verb sometimes gated, verb with pre-delay.or no processing at all.depending on your audio objectives. All of those mics go into a mixer for further processing. At least with traditional drum recordings. With Superior (which emulates all these mics and gives you control over bleed) you can often get a more authentic sound. For example you have a mic inside the kick drum, a mic on the outside of the kick drum, a snare mic under, snare on top, ambient mics and overhead mics. If you are trying to get rock track, especially classical 70's those can only get you so far before you discover elements are just "not how you want them to sound."įrom my standpoint the most real acoustical drum recordings are done in the traditional recording studio method. Is this a pop track? Jazz? Rock? If you are doing a Katy Perry type track just do it in Groove Agent, Battery, or Kontakt. I think you need to explain your audio goals. What else can you do? For drum rolls it can be pending the the type of roll. How would you process the drum track? or would you do two or three separate tracks so you can process them differently like a real drum set?ĬheersIt sort of sounds like you answered your own question. What else can I do? What I know I can't do is the drum rolls and also when it comes time to mixdown. I use varied velocity and try not quantize my notes 100% so that some are slightly off axis and also use the quantize function to get some swing. the strike has it all on paper and is amazing that way, but the ears need to be convinced.I guess so. Hopefully the alesis strike will be a great module as that is my plan to load vst's so i dont have to deal with triggering via pcĢbox drummit 5 is the only other option. lolīut i did find the answer to my issues, the choke is not available for metal machine, metal and metal head exz's but read that a fix is in the works but no time frame when it will be available. but at least we have many to choose form to load in our future module. What sucks is i need to buy many exz's to find some of the sound instrument i am looking for, metal machine is great for the drums but hate the ride cymbal, Steven slate had some killer sounding snare's exc. nothing worse that learning all this at once lol In ezdrummer 2 you can save the setting and kits and open them up again, but yea a pita, but at least i am getting familiar with vst's so that when i do finally buy a module worthy to load them in i will be familiar.
